Gasparilla 5K 2023

Go Team MaintenX! 19 Team Members Take Part in Gasparilla Distance Classic to Give Back to Tampa Bay

What a difference two years makes! Last weekend at the Gasparilla Distance Classic run, after two years of special limitations on the number of race participants and restrictions on other event activities put in place because of COVID, the biggest running event in Tampa Bay was finally back to its full, pre-COVID size and openness. And MaintenX was there to make a big showing with one of its largest race teams ever!

For this year’s event, 19 adventurous team members came out early in the morning on Saturday to pound the pavement. The goal was to challenge themselves to achieve a new personal-best run or walk time in the 15K and 5K races while enjoying the stunning sights of downtown Tampa and Bayshore Boulevard.

The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association was created in 1978 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for nonprofit charitable youth organizations and running programs in the Tampa Bay area. It does this through the annual Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend in late February which consists of a half-marathon, a  15K  run, an 8K run, and a 5K walk and run.

Thanks to the participation of teams like MaintenX, since the first race, in 1978, over $6 million has been raised for charities like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, The Friends of Tampa Recreation, and youth nonprofit and running-related programs throughout the Tampa Bay area.

“Our participation in this year’s race was a total win-win!” said Amy Abril, Marketing & Research Manager, one of our team organizers. “First, we had an amazing morning of camaraderie and competition in challenging and supporting each other to complete these three miles – and, for Dagner, almost 10 miles! Second, thanks to our leadership team’s sponsorship, we were able to make a sizeable donation to several Tampa Bay charities through the payment of our entry fees. Go Team MaintenX!”

To all the runners and walkers who represented MaintenX loud and proud at this year’s race, congratulations! And to our entire leadership team who sponsored our members and enabled our large donation to several Tampa Bay charities, thank you!

Stay tuned to our blog for more on our team events this year and the many ways we continue our company’s long tradition of giving back to our community.
